MMP will be resuming test and tunes on Oct 15th 2008.

Anyone interested in making this a club outing?

I personally think the first T&T day will be crazy and it will be packed. I would probably wait till the second week to let things cool down and at the same time let the big guys put some rubber on the new track

Edit: I would love to have a club meet there, something well organized and in advance (like Will is doíng it) to give time for everybody to work out their schedule.

I agree. What date would be good for everyone (well....the people that will actually show up)? I just need to get off my ass and get the cams in and tune.

I'd love another track meet. But, like Diego said, the first week is gonna be insanely packed, so maybe a few weeks after the re-open.

I wasn't even thinking so much to run as just to watch. Like you guys said, I'm sure it's going to be slammed and I just don't think the $25 is going to be worth it (number of runs and possibly surface wise). However, to see how they new owners run it, how it's laid out, the prep, etc. I think it would be a worthwhile $10 outing.

So far as the rubber being laid down, I would THINK that in the week and change between construction completion and opening the strip to the public they would have cars already going down the track getting a good rubber surface setup. At least, that's what I'm guessing that gap is all about. These guys just made a HUGE multi-million dollar investment, and with the economy as bad as it is they *HAVE* to be anxious to get money flowing back into that place ASAP; so really, getting it setup and ready to race is the only reason I can think of (other than a possible NHRA inspection, which I wouldn't expect to take a week given how few tracks are being constructed right now) that they wouldn't open it up the day after construction is finished.

I'd go watch too, as long as I'm not the one driving there.

I might be able to get the Isuzu so I can fit like 5 people total (that's counting me), but also I most likely have to take the GF with me, so only 3 people are gonna be able to go with me.

Stefi will probably (happily  ) roll up with me so you (paul) and her can duke shotgun seating out.

That leaves 1 "ok" seat in the rear or 2 "getting to know you really well" seats. I'll leave the numbers up to you back seat folks.

I just learned from AJ that Moroso will *NOT* be restarting drag-strip operations on Oct 15th due to not having electrical power hooked up until that following weekend.

http://www.southfloridaracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64245

I'll try to stay up to date on any developments but if anyone hears of an updated opening date please post up, but based on the information in the SFR thread it seems possible that they will resume operations on Oct. 22nd (the following wednesday). We'll have to wait and see what they announce though.

The title of this thread needs to change for two reasons.

#1) Will already told you.

#2) It is no longer Moroso Motorsports Park. It is now the Palm Beach International Raceway.

The new "grand opening" is listed as Wednesday, November 12th.

So far as the name change, I'm sure it will be like Advance Auto Parts -- still called by the old name "Discount" by a number of us. :)

The "Grand Opening" of the drag strip at the new PBIR was this past sunday during an open house. This aturday and sunday will feature the first racing event since the tracks closure some months ago, and next wednesday will be the inaugural Test 'n' Tune.

Anyone up for going to the saturday event? Entry is $15/ea for spectators. I think Stef and I might head up there.

I figured we'd all just sort of group together as we moved further north. No point in you driving all the way down here just to drive back past your house, you know?

I figure Deigo, Paul, Myself, Ricky (maybe) etc. will all meet down here, then pick up AJ on the way north (unless he leaves right from work, in which case he'd meet us here) and so on as we roll up that way.
